ABOUT US
Filipino Food & Restaurant Association of Canada (FFRAC), a not-for-profit offspring of Pinoylicious Filipino Food Movement is dedicated to the promotions of Filipino cuisine on multi-media platforms, special events inspired by nuanced discussions and robust storytelling and fueled by collaborations. A cultural heritage advocate for Filipinos in Canada, FFRAC aims to give voice to the delicious complexity and regionality of Filipino cuisine -- a voice that echoes and reverberates as it takes off globally.
FFRAC provides a platform for Canadian-born Filipinos, for Filipino immigrants and their children to explore their roots through Filipino food, regional products, recipes and cooking techniques of the Philippine archipelago. We amplify dialogues and discourses on our food traditions and food values that when looked over at longer terms, will tell us so much more about who we are. We inspire reflections and conversations that not only shape the future of the Filipino-Canadian food industry but also compel us to look at our history as Filipinos in the diaspora. With education and community-connectedness at its core, FFRAC invites Filipinos and non-Filipinos to explore and understand a deliciously complex cuisine that has been shaped by a plethora of cultures and flavours. We believe that as we develop a more evolved perception and confidence in our own cuisine, we help secure its place in the international market.
Our Philosophy
Filipino cuisine reflects the rich cultural heritage of a country comprised of over 7, 100 islands that has been a melting pot of different cultures for hundreds of years. While Philippine cuisine is synonymous to a hybrid, it is valid to think of it as a fusion of the Filipino environment and the circumstances and varied stories of Filipinos.
Filipino Food & Restaurant Association of Canada believes that a cuisine is not only about ingredients, techniques and flavours, but also about traditions and evolutions. It is about how food is consumed and shared by people. More so, a cuisine is a tapestry of the emotional connections of people with food. For our members, Filipino food is a reflection of a collective Filipino consciousness – a consciousness that makes Filipinos unique and admired by the world.
